Five ceramic and multimedia pieces along with their press mold installed at Kingsborough Community College Brooklyn, NY. March 24th, 1996 through October 15, 1996. Installation is 60' x 60'.
All pieces were built and fired at Greenwich Pottery New York, New York by Bradley Sunnarborg, March 1995 through March 1996.
Each of the ceramic pieces is 74" long, press molded, finished with colored sigellata's, oxide washes and fired to cone five.
Each piece weighs approx. 1500 lbs.
Mold is an 89" x 36" x 50" wood-reinforced two piece plaster and cheese cloth press mold.
Paddle Boat
45" x 108" x 32"
High percentage grog, low shrinkage stoneware, press molded coils, terra sigellata and black copper oxide wash. Paddle boat mechanism is made of steel and wood with chain drive.
Oars and Rudder
47" x 197" x 74"
High percentage grog, low shrinkage stoneware, press molded, terra sigellata and black copper oxide wash. Ship hardware is made of steel, steel cable, wood and rubber.
Sail Boat
156" x 108" x 36"
High percentage grog, low shrinkage red stoneware. Sail, made of pieced old clothing, is mounted on a bearing axle allowing 360°
rotation in the wind.
Motor Boat
46" x 90" x 32"
High percentage grog, low shrinkage red stoneware. Outboard motor, steel cable, steel and concrete block also used in the construction.
Catamarin
34" x 90" x 32"
High percentage grog, low shrinkage stoneware, press molded, terra sigellata and black copper oxide wash, wood, steel, and steel cable.
