Today marks the first upload of the revision based on the Barenreiter NBA study score edition. This edition presents the cantatas in the order of the church calendar, therefore, the chorales from the cantatas will be uploaded on that basis. So Advent begins the calendar and has three four part chorales associated with it. I have begun a new page, for this 'definitive' revision (hopefully), and am keeping the old corrections page as this archive.

Thanks to Georgios Fitsioris, BWV 14.5 is correct. The variation 14.5v which is Riemenschneider 182 and Barenreiter 182 has a repeat which creates a parallel 5th between the bass and the alto at the point where the repeat returns to the beginning. The Musica Budapest and the Kalmus editions are the same as the chorale in the cantata, which does not have an exact repeat and therefore no parallel 5th. I am not sure why Barenreiter chose to publish this form of the chorale when it is supposed to be the accurate New Bach Work edition.

Thanks to Darrell Conklin and Georgios Fitsioris, BWV 3.6 is correct. However, the variation 3.6v which is Riemenschneider 308 has been deleted from the sets and lists because the (unauthorized?) variation in the tenor creates a parallel 5th with the soprano.

Thanks to Georgios Fitsioris, BWV 194.6 has been corrected, along with its mov and pdf files. There was a D instead of a C in the fourth beat of the tenor in the eleventh measure. The Riemenschneider edition is incorrect; the Kalmus edition is correct. Likewise the variation on this chorale Riemenschneider 64 was also incorrect and has been corrected. This variation in G Major does not show up anywhere else.

There was a voice crossing between the alto and tenor in the 3rd and 4th beat of the first and fifth measures that was incorrectly notated. The Riemenschneider edition is misleading; the Kalmus edition is correct. There was also a wrong note in the alto on the third beat of the third measure.

BWV 650, one of the Schübler chorales, and BWV 137.2, the alto aria from which BWV 650 is derived, contain corrections. Some notation corrections have been made, and both files now have all staves at 9/8, rather than having the chorale part at 3/4. Sets downloaded after October 10, 2001 contain corrected versions of both these files.

On September 10, 2000, I uploaded all new revised sets of the chorales. All midi files are standardized with a key velocity of 96 rather than 64. All corrections are included. Three new sets appear, the six Schübler chorales, the five Vom Himmel hoc variations for organ and the 18 Leipzig chorales. Check for the new sets.
