Bolinas Lagoon
Bolinas Lagoon, at Point Reyes, a favorite site for birders. Thousands of migrant ducks and shorebirds winter on the water and the mudflats. The lagoon is a part of the crack in the earth over the San Andreas fault.
Belted Kingfishers, Ceryle alcyon, can be seen along the edges of the lagoon, sitting on the wires above the road, watching for unwary fish. They dive down into the water, bringing the catch back up to their perch.
